Roadless Rule rescission: where it matters—and where it doesn’t—for Idaho
What’s happening (in brief) As of August 29, 2025, the US Department of Agriculture has published a Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare for rescinding the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule. The 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule generally prohibits new road construction, road reconstruction, and most timber harvest in ~58.5 million acres of “inventoried roadless” National Forest lands, with limited exceptions.
