Membership Description
Role:
The primary role of the IOGA Membership Committee is to assist the Association with organizing and implementing strategies for recruiting and retaining members on an annual basis. The committee is involved in research, development and implementation of membership benefits and incentives.
Primary committee activities
Organize and implement, with staff and/or IOGA chapter leadership assistance, membership & non-membership receptions and social events for the purpose of sharing information on the benefits of IOGA membership and building membership camaraderie.
Research potential IOGA membership benefits including who would benefit and how. Research includes costs (dollars, volunteer and staff time) associated with possible benefit along with who and how implementation of the benefit(s) would transpire. Examples of potential benefits include reduced liability and health insurance, guide education programs, first aid courses, life flight program, etc.
Develop material for communicating IOGA benefits through flyers, newsletter articles and through use of the Internet.
Relationships:
The Membership Committee is a standing committee that reports to the Board of Directors, including any motions approved by the committee. The committee seeks approval of projects that require IOGA funding through the Board of Directors.
Committee Make-Up and Procedures:
The committee members and leadership are appointed and approved by the IOGA board of directors. Desired committee membership make-up should reflect diversity of IOGA voting membership. A committee of 5 to 9 members is desirable. The chairperson of the Committee is responsible to develop an agenda in consultation with the Executive Director, chair meetings using Roberts Rules of Order and appoint someone to record the minutes of all meetings. Minutes should be distributed to all committee members and the IOGA staff. The committee meets at least once annually during the annual meeting.
