GAC Description
Updated Winter 2004
Purpose:
The Governmental Affairs Committee provides advice, guidance and direction to the IOGA membership, the President and Executive Committee, the Board of Directors and staff regarding decision making related to the following:
The relationship between the outfitting industry and governmental entities
The legislative actions that impact the industry
The review of resolutions related to the above
Role:
The role of the Committee is to meet at least semi-annually, during Lobby Days and as needed by phone contact and fax network, particularly during the Legislature, to assist the President, Executive Committee and Board of Directors in governmental affairs decision making.
Relationships:
Members of the Committee are representative of the three IOGA sections and are appointed by the President. The chairman is selected by the committee members. The committee works closely with the Executive Director and receives advice from the IOGA Public Affairs consultant and lobbyist. Notes of committee meetings should be kept and shared appropriately. The Committee received and reviews recommendations for policy making (proposed legislation, resolutions, positions on NEPA processes, etc.) from the standing committees, chapters and sections. Committee recommendations are shared with the membership through Section and Board of Directors meetings. Communication channels including the Public Affairs Bulletin, the Newsletter and the regional coordinator will be information links between the committee and the membership.
